What is the Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP)?

Introduced in December 2023, the Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP) offers dental care coverage to Canadian residents with an adjusted family net income under $90,000 annually who do not have private dental insurance. The program is expected to benefit up to 9 million Canadians by reducing financial barriers to essential oral health care. It provides coverage to eligible residents currently without dental insurance.

What Does the CDCP Cover?

The CDCP covers a wide range of oral health services, from routine cleanings and dentures to advanced procedures like extractions. Modern Denture Clinic offers many of the services included in the CDCP benefits. To learn more about the services you need, book a free consultation call 905-902-6254.

Additionally, Modern Denture Clinic works with local dentists to ensure patients receive the care they need, even if the required services are not directly provided by us.

Important Note: Certain oral health services will require preauthorization. These services will consider an individual’s oral health history and medical conditions. Preauthorized services have been available since November 2024.

The CDCP only covers services included in the plan at the established CDCP rates. Patients may be responsible for additional costs if charges exceed these rates.

How Much Does the CDCP Cover?

The CDCP reimburses a percentage of the cost based on the established CDCP fees and the patient’s adjusted family net income. Additional costs may apply in the following cases:

  • If your adjusted family net income is between $70,000 and $89,999, a co-payment is required.
  • If the service fees exceed the established CDCP rates.

For an estimate of your service costs, book a free consultation with us by calling 905-902-6254.

Co-Payments and Claims

Modern Denture Clinic is a registered CDCP provider and can electronically submit your treatment and service costs to Sun Life. Patients are responsible for any co-payments, which are determined by their adjusted family net income.

A co-payment is the portion of the CDCP fees not covered by the program and is based on your adjusted family net income.

Income Criteria

To qualify for the CDCP, applicants must have an adjusted family net income of less than $90,000. This is determined by subtracting Universal Child Care Benefits (UCCB) and Registered Disability Savings Plan (RDSP) contributions from the net income, excluding amounts repaid for these programs.

To verify eligibility, employers and pension plan administrators must indicate on T4 and T4A tax forms whether the individual or their family members had access to dental insurance benefits during the reporting year.

On T4 forms, this information is found in box 45.

On T4A forms, it is in box 015, specifying a code to indicate the scope of coverage.

Lack of Other Coverage

Applicants must not have other dental insurance coverage to qualify. However, coverage through provincial, territorial, or federal government plans, such as ODSP, is acceptable and does not disqualify applicants.

Canadian Residency

Applicants must be Canadian residents and have filed a tax return for the year prior to their application to be eligible for the CDCP.
